How to start sustainable lifestyle?
These are the very basic and simple steps everyone can follow easily
1. Plant a Tree
Try to grow your own vegetables (at least some) in the garden, terrace, or on the balcony. If not possible at least try an indoor plant that will help to clean your surrounding air. Because trees are the only solution to get good quality air. You can plant outside your home also.
Instead of throwing kitchen wastes (that includes vegetable peels, spoiled leftovers) into the landfills, can be utilized to make compost. It will help to grow your trees, vegetables in your garden.
3. Recycle recyclable plastic
Don’t throw any recyclable plastics, give these to scrap hawkers.
4. Avoid products having Micro-beads
Avoid products that have microbeads, as these are microplastics. As it is mostly found in cosmetic products, it harms our bodies as well as sea animals.
5. Invest in Reusable products
Buying reusable products saves your money as well as makes the environment clean. Try to buy good quality products which last longer.
6. Shop locally
Shopping from a supermarket creates more pollution because every product comes with a plastic wrapper. Vegetables are also in the plastic wrappers to look more fresh and clean. Shopping from a local vendor is cheaper than supermarkets. Make sure to shop from a local vendor and say no plastic carry bag if they offers. Take your own shopping bag.
Buy a bamboo brush next time. Don’t start a day with plastic. It might be costlier compared to regular plastic toothbrushes but it’s OK. We need to change once in a three month. Using a plastic toothbrush creates a lot of plastic waste. To buy it from Amazon click here
8. Avoid single use plastic
It is difficult to avoid plastic completely but easily we can avoid single-use plastic. Just need to avoid straws, carry bags, disposables. Easy alternatives are also available.
9. Avoid toxic products
It is important to avoid products having toxic chemicals. Most of the companies use toxic chemicals in their products because it is cheaper. Be sure to check ingredients the next time you buy any product.
10. Reduce waste
The Thumb rule for reducing waste is “Generate the same amount of waste, that you can keep inside your home for a year”.
To reduce the waste we need to segregate waste into two categories wet waste and dry waste. Wet waste can easily compostable and dry waste can be avoidable in some situations. If not avoidable recycle, use them as a planter, make eco-bricks, etc.
